I'm using Rhino 5.0 for some 3D printing. I need to cut out a piece of acrylic on my laser engraver with this DSP controller, but I can't figure out a way to get this 2d rhino drawing into lasercad where it will cut it. It will engrave it, but that's not what I want. I've tried a half dozen different common file format exports and imports, but lasercad does a really lousy job of recognizing these. The shape I need to cut is really involved and impossible to recreate in lasercad's limited drawing tools.
Are there any plugins for rhino or other tools to use? This should be silly simple but I can't seem to figure it out. Thanks!

Re: Getting lasercad to recognize a drawing out of rhino 5.0
hi ther
does the file is recognized in lasercad as BMP or jpeg or a picture?
if not then you need to select the whole design and give it a color . then on this color change to cut in the submenue this should do it.

I tried "Export selected" as both "DXF 2012 lines and arcs" and .ai
Both imported into lasercad OK
Both imported into lasercad OK

Greoit,
Seeing as you were able to import the DXF, what color did you assign to the shape? If you leave it black, and you haven't changed black's parameters, it'll default to engrave. You need to assign a color immediately after you've imported, while everything from that import is still selected. Then double click the color layer in the right-hand menu and set the job to cut. You'll need to adjust speed, power, and optionally PPI accordingly for the acrylic you're trying to cut.
I'd also strongly recommend using an air-assist for cutting acrylic, no matter what thickness.
