Import issue with Adobe Illustrator AI file and LaserCAD

I have tried to import multiple Adobe Illustrator AI files into LaserCAD and I an getting the same weird box off the workspace grid.
I have tried to save them as different versions of Illustrator with the same result.
Any help would be appreciated.

I've always exported them out of AI via DXF. That almost always solves my problems =)

So exporting the file from Illustrator as a DXF works but it is not holding the dimensions.
How do I get LaserCAD to hold the dimensions?

Another issue I am running into is lettering is not transferring over even though I have the font installed on both machines.
