Engraving conversation

I dug around in the search function but couldn't come up with anything that I was looking for so I apologize if this has been discussed and I missed it.

First one...I sometimes get a stray line that is totally off from the rest of my engraving. It seems like that line moves over 5-10mm to one side then everything returns to normal. I vaguely recall some talk about rising/falling pulse can mess with that so I'll try switching that later.

But I wanted to double check, is that sort of thing where like...1 or 2 lines randomly move in the entirety of the engraving happen from software? It's not uniform or predictable. I turned the speed from 300 to 270 and still had them, thought maybe speed was affecting it. Not sure.

Just some ramblings I'm trying to sort out before I engrave some customer work and accidentally botch their materials. That's all

Ok so I switched it to Rising Edge instead of Falling edge...no difference.

I changed it to run at 250 instead of 300...still nothing. But I actually watched what happened this time. I was watching the head go back and forth and all of a sudden it hiccups and right after, my image is offset by 10mm or so. Then it keeps moving along until it hiccups again and returns back to the original order.

I don't get it. Is this a software bug? Is it hardware? I have absolutely NO other issues except when engraving big images. Small images, vectors, cutting, mixed cutting and engraving, cutting 2+ hour projects...nothing. Just engraving big images.

Very frustrating. :x

Edit: Tested at 200 speed...still no good. I'll try a smaller file and see if that is the problem.

Post your job file and the result I'll give it a try. In the mean time, I'll opt out the software or hardware issue from the DSP.

Ok, I've got it, it's definitely file size.

Same dimensioned images but the one I used was 10mb, had skips. I went to one that was 4mb, no problems at all! Awesome!

So, not sure what to do from here...but at least I can work within that =)

Ok Marco I spoke too soon.

Turns out the second project in...it did it again. I'll post some project files here.

This one...it makes a mess about halfway through and goes sideways and stays there. Not as bad as my 'big' one but still screws up. The big one is too big to upload =(

Hi axeman,
I try this on my machine no problem.
did you format the DSP? because the DSP has only 64mB and sometimes it has old file parts in it.
second set the stepper driver down one notch, I had this too but after switching the driver down it never happen again
third check your belts for tightness.

Thanks for the tips...I'll give it a try.

Thank you for the 64mb limit, also good to know.

So you went from 16th step to 8th step?

Right on, I'll try that later today hopefully. Tightening belts on this rig is a nightmare...so I'll try 1/8 first.

Thanks Walt, -really- appreciate it.

Switched to 1/8 but haven't engraved yet...can definitely hear a difference in torque! Wow!

Since I have such a heavy gantry, I wonder if this wasn't my problem all along...I'll update later in case anyone else runs into this and this is the solution.
