New Feature request

Marco,

So far loving the DSP, it is really fun to go so quickly from a thought to a part! One feature that I have seen on some other controllers is the ability to take a gray-scale image and have the laser vary the power based on the gray-scale. I am not looking for engraving images, but more for 3D profiling.

an image like this:
Dome.jpg
Dome.jpg (12.72 KiB) Viewed 2243 times
would engrave a dome or a spherical divot depending on if black was full power or off. Setting the laser value for black and white in the image would allow someone to determine the depth of the 3D effect.

Any chance of something like this in the future? :D

I tried 1 bit bmp images for 3d engraving but it will be better If software decides all things on greyscale image like Artcam software etc.

Marco,

Have a safe trip to China!

Could you check with the programmer about the potential to include this type of function into the DSP and software?

Thanks,

Paul

This is a big wish of mine also and it would engrave pictures so much better as well. It must be very hard to do otherwise Mr Li would have done it by now. He is a very good programmer.

I had a print driver with my old electronics that would do that. You could change the percentage of laser power per shade by using sliders to tweak the output. I think you would just have to preprocess the file ahead of time and assign power levels to each shade and when, where, and what power to fire it. It worked with 256 shades of grey. The DSP was only built for RF lasers so I had to switch to the AWC-608.
