HI All.

This is my first post so please forgive me If I am not posting in the right spot.

So I use to own and Epilog legend 18 and it had auto focus. I just revived my DC-KII 40 watt c02 form China and I will be receiving my LSR-K40DSPKIT upgrade kit from Light object's Next week.

I also ordered a Power table/bed kit for K40 laser machine. I see in it description the 2012 controller its supports Auto focus.

The question I have is this. Is there anything I need to order to get the Auto Focus to work.

Thakns

I'm just going on assumptions based on similiar systems.

The controller simply wants another stepper driver and a limit switch. In most systems I have seen, they use a proximity switch, mounted on the laser nozzle system and a small metal block of known calibrated height to be placed on top of the material to are going to cut. The entire Z axis then homes upwards until the block trips the proximity switch. The block is sized to make the focal length of whatever lens you are using focus in the material at the right point.

So, you need:
Stepper driver
Stepper motor
Belts
Pulleys

It's my understanding K40s already have a Z axis that moves and is tied together via a belt. It's a matter of mounting the motor and most important, checking to make sure none of that is in the laser beam path. Light aluminum plate can be used to block the beam and protect as the lasers we use will not cut aluminum.
