Communicating unsuccessful

Hey, just playing around with my DSP tonight, but it seems to be really fussy as to when it wants to save settings, load programs etc. For example, if I save settings in the manufacturer menu, then go and download a file to it right after, it says "Waiting ..." and never ends, and I have to force close the software.

It sometimes also stops communicating with the software completely, like I can't save manufacturer settings etc, it just says communicating unsuccessful. I a using laserCAD 5.9 and mainboard version 5.11.10.12

For example, I open up laserCAD, and go into manufacturer properties. I read from the DSP, and it works OK. I then change some values, and click Save, and it works OK. But if I try and save again after, it says communicating unsuccessful. If I open and close the window, and try save again, it also says it. Then after this, it can't read any programs off memory or do anything.

Shutting down laserCAD and opening it back up again also does not fix it. I have to physically unplug the DSP's power and the USB cable and practically do a full reset.

EDIT: I was just looking at the new software patches, and V5 isn't even listed?? Did I get an old model?

Regards,
Dan

Your OS is very old. I did post a few OS and you should download it upgrade your DSP board. Otherwise, some issue would not be able to correct and new software LaserCad won't run properly.

What you need to do is to upgrade yours to be "V6" (I think it's the only way), then take the latest OS with prefix "6" to upgrade to the latest V6 OS. Just go to Software Download for the DSP and find the "oldest" one but later than yours to upgrade and make it to be other than "V5". Then, get the latest one.

I hope you guys follow my post and do upgrade when I post it. Otherwise, it's hard to do support if your OS is different than mine or than other folks who post question.

If you have problem to do upgrade, let me know

Hi Marco, I went back and tried the oldest, but newer file, but it gives me an upgrade error :(

Maybe if you can send me a link to the right software in case I am using the wrong one?

EDIT: Now for some reason when I check the main board version, it shows 7.12.03.01, even though I used the V6 file and it said upgrade error?

Dan

You should load this one before anything: viewtopic.php?f=55&t=941
There are two files and you need only one. If you follow my instruction, it should go pretty smoothly

After that, you should be seeing V6 or V7, or V8 depends.
Then you load the latest patch

Since it's showing "7", so you have no choice but run the latest V7 to upgrade to "7.12.04.01"

Thank you for your help Marco. I put the latest V7 patch on and it appears to work, it didn't give upgrade error this time.

I also tried doing what I did before to get communication unsuccessful, and it didn't happen again! I'll keep trying to see if it will happen again.

Thank you for your great support :)

Dan

Great!

FYI, sometimes you need to close the LaserCad an start again to establish communication. In some case, you need to reboot as USB may be occupied by other resources. So, just don't get panic and works things out step by step.

If communication lost, just unplug it from the port, then switch to other plug. After that, open LaserCad and use the Right Top menu to "Findcom" and it should get back the communication. Again, no panic. Machine is a machine and WIndows is a software, it's not as smart as human being like "Marco Polo"

Update: enough for today. Got to go home make some chicken soup. I got low blood pressure and seems I have "anemia" problem (easy get tired, dizzle, and headache). Time for taking a rest.

Hehe yes, I don't like software and it doesn't like me!! :)

Just a question, is it possible to view the current position of the laser in the software as it's doing the work?

Like the simulate option in LaserCAD, except it reads the values from the laser controller and draws the simulation line where the laser actually is? Like a live simulation kind of thing.

EDIT: Sorry to hear you are ill. Good luck for a fast recovery :)
