Because the software is used to position the design, choose speed and power, determine the order of cut or engrave. You are actually preparing the design for the cutter so.....
LaserPrep
ReadyCut
CutPrep
Or maybe
Preperation-L

Somebody in another thread mentioned LaserCOM. This being short for Laser Communications which is the primary function of LaserCAD.

Any more new name available?
A new version will come out soon.
It will support better ramping engraving and may be grey scale is included. Plus, U axis for rotary should be ready, too!

I have thought about "LaserCAM" but a little concerned about the word 'CAM'. Not sure if folks confused with with CNC machine or the 'G-Code' I like this name, regardless.

That's why the + (plus) is essential.. And also because it's a little bit more than CAM alone..
Maybe for the logo it is better to integrate the + in the M..

Since this is a Light Object program, how about:
Light Carve
Light Sabre
LO CNC+
LO ProCarve
LO Sculptor
LO Shaper

My suggestion. Leave it alone. Keep it LaserCAD. Everyone knows that now and knows what it is... Changing it will just confuse people. Instead, maybe consider having the new version be able to import more file types (correctly), like PDF, Inkscape SVGs, etc. or provide plug-ins for Inkscape, DeltaCad, and other low-cost CAD and CAD like programs.
FWIW, Inkscape is free and can handle more than LaserCAD. DeltaCad is very inexpensive (e.g. $39) and is very capable -- so the idea that you have to spend $1000s on a CAD program isn't correct.
And one other option you should consider: Make LaserCAD open source! People DON'T buy LaserCAD, they buy the DSP controller! If you make it Open Source you get development resources for free, the software gets better, and in turn more people will want the hardware that works with it. Then LaserCAD becomes a good CAD program and your customer base grows!
Is the "magic" in the software or in the hardware? If it's in the hardware you have nothing to lose by making the software open source and a lot to gain. And as a customer I can tell you I'd rather have ONE program to work with than two or more, even if that means that I help improve the software for free.

I think that you need to consider searchability, putting Light Object in the name helps in directing traffic to your site, I would suggest this name
Light Object LaserPlotter

How about "Laser-Build" or "Laser-Lab"
