Re: Inching feature access

I had that feature on the DSP that I replaced! It wasnt real handy then because of the crappy orgin support but it would be real handy now when you had to get the orgin "just right".

It is enough to say, it would be good for those in the USA for LaserCAD to be bilingual.

One thing I have always wished for is more immediate access to the inching feature at the keypad.

As it is now you must drill down several layers in the menu to access inching at the keypad. As a consequence of this, I never use it.

Wouldn't it be great to be able to use a modifier key (say ESC) which when held, would make each press of the jog keys, inch the pre set distance.

Greolt...
Yes it would. Like 5% of the full speed for fine adjustments. As it is now you can inch very small distances from the LCD panel with small key presses but it is not really responsive. Sometimes it flies off 10mm and other times it works in really small increments until you're nearly there and then it jumps 10mm. The way it is now is so much better than it was before but it does need a tweek to make it just a tad better.

Personally I would like 256 levels of gray scale processing for 3D images. That would really sell a lot more units than a lot of other improvements.

The DSP is good now, but is still evolving and I think in the end will be a fantastic bit of kit, especially for the price. I love it even with all it quirks.
I used another product for a couple of years and the only thing that had that the DSP doesn't is a GOTO function. (Hang on!!! I think it has one on the right hand side lower pane) I will have a look later.

There is at present an inching function. I set it for 0.5mm and with repeated presses I can get the head just where I need it.

However it takes nine button presses just to reach that function. So in my day to day operating, it never gets used.

Imagine if, while holding the ESC key, jogging buttons would increment that axis 0.5mm with each press. Now it becomes a "use all the time" feature.

I use the "Run Box" feature on just about every job setup, often several times.

Even if only once, just before hitting Start, to confirm in my mind that I have not made some silly positioning error.

On another controller I have used, every press of the "Run Box" button moves the head one side only of the square. So it takes four presses to go all four sides of the box.

I found this to be a handy feature. Maybe this is something to think about for LaserCAD / AWC608

There is a RUN BOX feature on the Keypad as well as on the screen for software control. Is that what you are talking about? I use it all the time just to make sure I have my origin in the right place. Sometimes I forget to set the Origin and the laser moves to the last place I set it.
It is very handy as well for setting the job size on a scrap piece of material so it just fits in. I like it a lot :-)

I was unaware the DSP had a slow jog function and being buried so deep makes it un-viable for everyday use, as you say. For main movements it should be on the LCD front panel. Must be an afterthought.
