PPI settings and scan gap

I've been playing with different PPI settings and haven't seen any changes in the quality of the engraving. Same logo, same power and speed, same material, different PPI settings ranging from 300 to 1200.

I lowered the scan gap setting and got a much nicer engraving, crisp, highly detailed text on 4 pts arial.

Has anyone been thrugh the same path?

the PPI settings are only for cutting not for engraving.
the scan gap should correspond with the DPI of your item.

Thnx for clearing that up. The options available for each type of work change/gray out, so I didn't thought of that isssue.

Good thing is, I can get high definition engraving and/or fast engraving times easily.

How do you change the scan gap on LaserCad? I get occasional banding of unexposed raster lines which probably are related to this issue

In LaserCad, when you choose Engrave instead of cut, it will show a scan gap setting below Power 2 %. That's where you put in the decimal point of mm's.

If you divide 1 inch to the scan gap you set, you get your DPI (dots per inch in print language) i.e. 0.10mm scan gap = 254DPI

25.4/0.042=604

for high definition 600DPI you can set your scan gap to 0.042mm
