Overcut in LaserCAD

Post by Greolt »

Will LaserCAD allow overcutting?

By overcut, I mean where you can specify that the end of a closed vector cut will continue a set distance past the start of same cut.

Very common feature in CAM software.

Try the Overlap in the Cut Parameters. That may do it (I haven't tried it).

For a closed loop cutting, you can use the "overlap" to extend the cutting.
But it won't work for an open line per programmer Li

Update: so far it can do up to 3mm extended cutting.

Thank you very much Tim and Marco.

I was sure I had seen it somewhere but could not find it again.

3mm would be more than enough.

When you extend the cut on a square box, it didn't do 'overshoot' but it extent the 3mm to the next turn. It may not really work the way you want, isn't it?

It appears like it does not work.

Just to illustrate, here is a pick showing lead ins and lead outs.

Overlap of 3mm has been set but not showing.

Ellipse and rectangle are about 5mm wide overall.

Also if I don't use lead in and lead out, and simulate the cut, it does not do the overlap.

Here is the same example.

Overall size is approx 5mm.

3mm overlap has been set.

Simulation run (blue line)

No overlap apparent.

It won't show it on graphic. Did you ever try it on machine making a real cut?

Yes I made a cut. :)

Does not show when previewing the leads.

Does not show in the simulation.

Does not produce an overlap in the cut.

It's strange as I have no problem to get the overcut here. Check the DSP version for me, can you? Or, did you upgrade the system OS?

See Youtube video

To let you see more clear, I have added delay before and after the fire. There was a clearly 3mm over-cut

FYI, I tested old one (8:12:01:08) and (8:12:02:26), all worked great.
The reason your didn't work could be a setting issue. If you put a check mark on "LIne_Cut_Mode", for sure it will disable the "over-cut" feature as over-cut won't work on line alone. See image.

If it's not the case, please try something else.

Marco

Did some more tests and this is the results so far.

Overlap does not work in combination with lead ins and outs.

Overlap does work if leads are not used.

The "LIne_Cut_Mode" checked or not, does not make any difference. Overlap will work either way.

Overlap does not get simulated. Perhaps this should be on the list for a fix.

And maybe when leads are set then overlap setting should be greyed out to show it is not available.

Overall I am happy that overlap works.

Thanks for the support.
