I will try the last suggestion today and tomorrow and report back. I changed the headline of the thread as an appreciation for the help. I will delete the post if we can get this figured out

So i changed the amps to suggested. and this morniung it was only off by a very little. about 1.5mm on the Y. When i set the step to 8 though it doesnt operate properly. It moves very fast when homing then when i try and etch something it moves very roughly and only moves about a inch in each direction on the X axis. X is set to .4a and y .8a.

I told you that you need to re calibrate the UM value. You change the micro stepping. If you don't do it. The speed and ratio change!

Please post your parameters here, both user and manufacturer parameters. I think you may have acceleration/ speed issue or the Y motor is escaping

I changed the UM to match the change to 8 step. Here are the screens you requested.

Make some change to the following parameters see if it helps:
1) Space speed: 100
2) Space_jerk: 50000, Cut_Jerk: 300000
3) Min_Acc: 200
4) XY Home_speed: 40
5) Start speed: 10
Show me where did you install the limit switch at
When it come back to the origin, does it always come to the same spot or randomly picked?

All settings changed. Will turn machine off and leave off for a few hours and turn it back on and see what happens.

You don't need to wait. If it worked, then it would work. If you have to wait, that means something wrong with the motor (most likely) caused by overheat or something. So, what is status?? Origin to the exact same point or not?

Did you swap the motor drivers ?
If not, then do so. That will eliminate the motor drivers issue if problem not fixed by swapping. Only thing left is the either bad motor (highly suspicious) or bad controller (less likely)

replace the stepper drivers completely? or switch them so y is now x and x is now y?
