3 digit mini LED reads 66.6

After hooking up the 7805 and powering on my digital voltmeter, all it reads is 66.6. I have red power to prong 3 on the regulator. The second prong is grounded. And prong 1 has input power(green) which is also connected to a wire running to power. The black ground and ground from prong 2 are both on the same negative terminal of the battery and the input power is ran to the positive terminal of the battery. The battery is 12v. Am I doing something wrong or could the metter possibly be defective? Thanks

Is it a current meter or a voltage meter?

Then I think you need to return for exchange. Seems the meter is malfunction.

i sent the volt meter back. and confirmation number says it was delivered. just wanted to see how many business days exchanges usually take. thank you.
