Beam inside or outside of line

Post by neuman5022 »

Hi Guys,

What determines the position of the beam width (kref) to be outside of the cutting line or inside the line ?

In some SW you can set the machine so the tool will cut outside or inside of the line? How can I do this with RayVAM 19 ?

Cheers

You can work it out. If whatever you cut out is the right size or marginally smaller ( use some digital calipers ) then you will know.

To work out your kerf cut a series of for example 10 squares.
Put those squares together and measure the overall width. Measure the width of the hole left by cutting.

Then take one away from each other. Eg...

Width of hole - 100mm - Overall width 95.5mm

=4.5mm.

Divide this by the number of cuts - 11.

4.5mm /11 = 0.4mm. That’s your kerf.

So! What do we do with this information?

Use the offset tool, scale the drawing by a percentage or add on 0.4mm to the dimensions.

There is some new software out called lightburn that can do kerf offsetThey are trying to make a decent laser cutting program that works with all controllers. Currently they have it working with ruida and are working on anywells compatibility.

Thanks,

That makes sense now. I did not know the beam is set to be exactly on the drawing line, since it is diferrent to what I was used to with my cnc machines.

I will look into the new SW.

Cheers
