Post by Kev20009 »

hi guys finally got the laser going nice, is any one getting good photo engraving with the 608, it has had the latest updates

I now its a lot to do with prep work, pretty good in photo shop and gimp, but not getting detail good skin is always just blank white, tried lots of speeds and power setting, if any one got a photo they have engraved they would be willing to mail me to try, I can then find out if its me or the laser, thanks guys kev

So....

To engrave properly have you:

Work out your laser dot size for your lens and how many of those dots will go into 1 inch to give you the DPI.

Work out your scan gap from this.

in the image, convert to greyscale, adjust contrast and brightness, sharpen and unsharpen the image.

Resample the image to the size you want and DPI to match your laser settings.

Convert the image to black and white bitmap choosing stucki, Jarvis or floyd steinberg dithering.

Import the image into laser cad and set the scan gap and PPI to match the DPI of the image.

It should work a treat then.

In terms of programs I have tried photoshop, affinity and CorelDraw and I find Corel is the easiest work flow. You can also choose the dither type.
