Laser Engraving Distortion Problem!

Post by SolarDude »

I have had a 900x1200 laser cutting machine from Light Object for 4-5 years now and it's work great the whole time.

Recently I upgraded to new laptops and updated to the latest Lasercad software.

I have noticed that I have to adjust the settings of old cutting/engraving files for them to cut correctly on the new software. Have others experienced the same?

Recently I'm getting weird distortion when engraving but not on some text areas.

I have tightened all the belts but the issue remains.

If I create a 50mm square or circle inside Lasercad and engrave it then it comes out perfect so there can't be a problem with the belts or alignment.

The square that's cut 50mm measures exactly 50mm in both directions so my stepper settings are fine as they have been for years.

I ran this test file Marco put on the forum and to me it shows the machine is in great alignment and no belts have slack in them. This was cut at 100mm second.

Here is another file I cut that shows the engraving is skewed but below the text is almost perfect for some reason?

Here are a few more files showing how the engraving skews to the right as it moves down.

Any idea what may be going on?

Normally on all my engraving I choose a scan gap of 0.02 I have also tried the 0.03 but the distortion remains.

Here is 2 circles created in laser cad and it looks like when using Scan Gaps of 0.5 there is no distortion, but 0.5 is not fine enough for my normal work.

Here is a 50mm square, Cut, and then Engrave that looks perfect to me and leads me to believe the machine is fine but the issue is with the latest software some how.

Marco, any ideas?

Where can I find the older Lasercad software to try out? I've tried 7.79.2 but the issue remains.

I've exported the same files from Corel Draw 6 into the new software but the problem remains.

Thanks Marco!

I'm trying it now but I'm pretty sure I have tried that version and the other earlier version you had posted on the download page.

I'll report back after I give that software a try.

Do you see any problems with my settings?

Marco I'm seeing the same problem with v7.86.1 software.

What is the oldest LaserCad software you have that I could try? I would like to keep going back in time to see if this goes away if possible.

OK, I have confirmed that the 7.86.1 Lasercad Software is working just fine with some files and other older files it's causing the distortion on the engrave parts of the image for some reason.

I have tried some older files and they cut perfectly fine without any problems.

You mentioned that there may have been a problem with 7.9 LaserCad Software that I tried and I'm wondering if that software edited my files and that is now causing the image distortion in the files that I used with the Lasercad 7.9 software?

Weird. Time-consuming for sure.

I'm going to keep trying older versions of the cut files that have never been used with the version 7.9 software and see if I can get this resolved.

If you have any Tips let me know.

Thanks!

I think the acceleration are too low
You need to raise 3~4 times on the x and y
Cut jerk and space jerk need to set to 10,000 and 20,000 respectively

YES that fixed it!! The machine is much quicker now also.

Not sure how I ended up changing those settings but I think when I installed the new software I hit the reset the Normal settings and that's what it had as defaults.

Here is what I now have. Let me know if need to change anything else please.

I will do this:
Cut acceleration: 2500
Space_Acc: 2500
Engrave acceleration: 5000~6000
Min acceleration: 200
Start speed:15
Key_move: 200
Run_box: 200
Home: 80
Clip_box: 100

If it works better, send me a cup of cappuccino and a piece of cheesecake!

Hi Marco, I have downloaded the latest version 7.86 but I can't see the options on the Settings Tab, Advanced Options. Please check the attached screenshots there is no Rotate Engrave options. Could you tell me what I'm doing wrong, or if I need to download a new version
