Switching from a Leetro MPC6565 to the LO X7 - Wiring Help

Post by pannaus »

Hey guys, I recently bought a machine from Weike Laser.
It's a 1300 x 2500 mm work area 150W machine. I dediced to upgrade to LaserCad and the X7.

DSP arrived today and I procedeed to wire it, by unplugging the wires from the leetro and plugging them into the X7.

When I switch on the machine, the panel lights up and starts, but gets stuck on "system resetting". I can push STOP and ESC, but then it seems like there's no interaction whatsoever with the machine.

I am sure I messed up somewhere and that's why I took pictures of the previous setup and of the actual one.

I think I might have the Limit brackets wrong.
Thanks!

Looks like I've solved this.

The DIR and PUL were inverted on the two different boards.
I connected the DSP to the ethernet and I am not installing Lasercad 7.7.

Also, the laser head and z axis move without issues now ;)

WIll have to setup a bunch of stuff to get it to work right ;)

Ok, it looks like the Z axis has a problem. It does not work anymore.
Also, even though I set the work area to 1300 x 2500 on lasercad, the machine won't recognize it and when I press RUN BOX, it doesn't matter where the drawing is. The machine will run the same box every time in the same position.
Anyone here with a decent config for a bigger machine?

I set the origin to software origin, but the machine won't really care.
Also, we encountered a problem with the X Y axis wiring to the DSP.

The card was not powering up and the power supply display would show a weird sign. so we had to switch the machine off and unplug the axis connectors. We then plugged them in again and it seems the machine gets the origin from where the laser head is when we reconnect the axis connectors to the DSP.

That results in having a ridiculous work area. Like 0 x 50 mm area as the X won't seem to move anymore...it's very complicated.

I think that if someone cna look at our wiring it would problably understand what's wrong ;)
Please help

You need to calibrate the 'um' (um per pulse) value before you can make it work properly. It has been mentioned many times on the forum. Take a look of the FAQ where I posted a quick way to show to do it. You can't direct a Leetro controller to the X7 because connectors location or wire sequence are different. Plus, check the limit mechanism you have, check whether is it optical limit sensor or mechanic limit switched are used. If optical type, you need to make sure that the optic is powered by the same power sources of the DSP. Otherwise, it won't take the signal.

Those are mechanical limit switches.. Can u tell me if they are wired well?

You only need to wire the ELX- and ELY- and common ground. Do not connect the 24V. You don't need the ELX+ or EEY+
Note: I'm assuming the X- and Y- are the HOME limit switches while the X+ and Y+ are the far end limit

Hmmmmm, that's interesting. They might be inverted. Will give it a try.
Will update in a few hours. Thanks

So, I figured out to get the z axis working again.

I experienced a weird thing though.
When I click on Z-Reset on the panel, the 3 motors move flawlessly and in sync. When I use the z up and z down buttons on the panel, the motors behave very differently.
Some move faster than others and the messes the bed up.

I will try to reconnect the drivers the best I can, even though it's kinda hard to recognize the wires in a machine like this one :(
