Laser engraving photo's is not something special for the X7. Any controller can do the same. It also depends on your material.
But in general you can make a black-white picture and import that in Lasercad.
Although I make a 1-bit picture with the right DPI in Photoshop, you are able to convert a random picture in Lasercad to 1-bit
You have to experiment yourself for settings like brightness and contrast to get the best results in your material.

thank you! Maybe one more question: How is the dpi resolution of the image related to the ppi setting in the laser? or is there no correlation?

thanks

But there can be a relation between DPI and scangap.. Say, your scangap is 0.08mm.. in one inch that is 25.4/0.08 = 317.5 lines per inch..
Handy to set your DPI the same or half or double.. whatever you like..
