20W Fiber Optics metal engraving machine cutting capability

Post by Tech_Marco »

This is a testing result for a 20W fiber optics machine

Thickness (mm): Number of pass:
0.1 5
0.2 15
0.3 35
0.4 80
0.5 120
0.75 800

It is just a referrence what a 20W engraving machine can do on cutting metal (iron plate)

How come this 20 watt machine an cut through spring steel when my 35 watt K40 can barely cut through 3mm plywood?
What am I not understanding?

The wave spectrum of this machine 1064nm while a CO2 is 10600nm. It is a different kind of laser. The 1064nm got no reaction when it touch your skin but the CO2 will burn your skin badly

Note: I was doing 3~5 pass per customer request. It is because he need at least 0.1mm etched deep so that the serial number won't be wrapped out easy. Plus, it was doing both vector cutting (outline) and engraving so it take a bit longer. If I only do one pass without outline, it take may be 1 or 2 seconds only. Super fast compare to CO2 laser machine using stepping motors or servo.

that is lovely!

i've done a fair amount of marking on anodized aluminum with the co2 system i bought from you, but nothing beats galvos and an f-theta lens for speed.

one of these days....

From $11,500 to $23,500 (10W to 30W)
It is fast and it is powerful!

Galvo - high speed mirror system
Laser module - either made in Germany or Chinese

Other than that, no other parts inside the machine surprise you
I'm getting a quote for the 100W, 300W, and 500W laser module. I may come up my metal cutting machine that is capable to cut up to 5mm thickness stainless steel in one pass!

I remember building high-speed mirrors in the late 1960s for use in 'light machines' in clubs and discos. We made them far more precise than necessary - but the were far better than today's feeble efforts (and far more expensive!)
