Stepper motors noise while idle

Post by nony »

Hi there,

i just finished my K40 upgrade to X7 DSP..
Everything is working good, but there's noise from stepper motors while machine is idle.

I tried changing current on 24V power supply but noise is just changing..Checked with voltmeter theres exactly 24V.
Both stepper drivers (x,y) are set to 0.42A

There was not any noise while i was using Moshiboard.

Noise from steppermotors comes from the driver.. You may try a different microstepping..

So i tried every possible settings on stepper drivers - noise is just changing, but it's always there..
Don't know if noise is problem.. I can live with this, because everything is working correctly.

Is it a hissing noise? What type of stepperdrivers do you have?
Some stepperdrivers (based on L297 and some TB-types) generate a less highfrequent (audible) signal to drive the motor. It's in their nature and nothing to worry about.

After I had upgraded my K40 controller in March of this year, my stepper motors started producing noise at idle.
After posting the question regarding the new sound, no one had commented or offered a solution so I decided to use the machine "as-is".
To-Date, there have been no issues and I am very pleased and amazed with the increased resolution from the upgrade.
