I bought a new K40 a couple of months before in order to engrave steel tags.
Being completely new in that business, it took me several days to set up it correctly (align otical path, understand Moshi SW a bit) and manage to engrave a few tags.
My problem is that the engraving quality is very low and in many cases the letters are not complete (as you can see in the photo, parts of the letters are missing and sometmes the words are not in the same line). I did several tests with different speeds and positions and I didn't managed to fix the problem. To my understanding the problem comes from the SW and not the machine.
The settings I use are:
-Cermark as a Laser Marking Ink
-Current Indication 20mA
-Engraving Power 100%
-Engraving Speed 1 cm/s
So, my question is, if the upgrade to DSP will help me to not have such issues.
I am ready to place the order of the AWC608 DSP upgrade kit for D/K40 small CO2 laser machine as soon as I get an indication that I will be able to engrave my steel tags.
Thanks a lot
PS: I have attached the photo of my Power Supply, in order someone to see if I need to change it as well when I do the DSP uprade

It is considered a simple task withthe DSP card. No such headache at all and you can do more than that
By the way, limit the current to 16ma because 20mA is too much for the small tube

Hey,
I upgraded my K40 to DSP a little over a year ago and have never looked back. You have made the right choice. You also need to get a pulse width modulator power supply, if you K40 doesn't have one.
I also engrave steel tags, and do it for a living now, all with the K40!
I use Thermark LMM14 on steel. The settings I use are:
Speed: 20
Power: 55
Scan Gap: 0.04
X Swing
Laser PPI: 1200
I always get an excellent black finish with these settings and LMM14. All the best with it!
