Belt problem?

I just had my machine start jumping a little as seen in the video linked. You can hear it sound like maybe the belt is slipping. What would you say the issue is?

Not the belt. The stepper motor is losing steps. Could be one of more of the following: mechanical obstruction, binding, and insufficient stepper current.

I checked for obstructions and have not found anything. Would a loose cable cause the current issue?

The machine has been running well and just started acting up today.

What's the motor driver resolution? I mean the micro step. 1/8 or 1/16?
And, what is motor current? Speed ?
"um" value?

Good grounding?
Also,check the axial coupling as it may got loose

Factory motors.

I have the upgraded DSP kit you sell. It has been running fine.

Where should I check the ground?

Axial coupling looks good.

The side to side seems to be the issue.

Do the motors just crap out?

Ok so I discovered that the X axis will stop working after a few runs while the Y still works. If we power the machine off and back on it works again.

Any tips?

I don't know if your motor run out or not. That's why I asked for your setting information see if any hint that lead to the problem.

I am running the "DSP upgrade kit for D/K40 small machine" (AWC608) .

I have had it about 5 months now so its not terribly old.

So when I swap microstepper drivers I have the same results so its not the driver.

Check the motor temperature, you should be able to touch it for more than a few seconds. If you can't, reduce the stepper current. If a stepper motor overheats, it won't work correctly.

I have checked the temp and it seems to be fine.

I should answer Marco's question - he really does know what he's talking about and why he asked it!

After a lot of work I believe we have narrowed it down to the axis stepper motor wiring. I believe the wiring on the X-Axis motor is shorting out or something of that nature.

You may request a RMA for return for exchange of a new DSP controller
I'm in China now so I can't assist you at this movement but my staffs there should be able to help for the exchange

I would suspect a bad stepper motor before the wiring, unless its in a connector. You swapped the driver boards around and still had the same problem, correct? So its either the wiring, a connector or the motor.
