Post by anchange »

I just completed the DSP controller conversion on a china K40 and it is working pretty well. I also bought this solidstate chiller -

Has anyone used these on k40s? There is some kind yellowish liquid half filling the reservoir any one have any idea what this is and if it is ok to use with the laser tube of should I just replace with water?

Any guidance would be appreciated!

It all depends how long of laser is running. A 40W laser will generate about 400Watt heat because of 10% efficiency so a 150W solid state cooler (assuming by using peltier module) shouldn't be enough if you're planning to use it for hrs. But, if you're not planning to use the laser machine in continuously mode, say working a few minutes and stopping for a few minutes, then it should works just fine. A 40W laser is OK with a 2 gallon of water tank and a air cooled radiator. Well, the bottom line is to keep water not exceeding 32'C. The best working temperature (water) is 22'C~25'C
