Sous Vide Pump

I know this might not be the right location for this post, but…

Since many of the questions in this "Temperature Controller" section pertain to Sous Vide, I will ask it here.

Has anyone used this 12VDC pump

For cooking?

I notice the heat specifications limit at 100C with the pump un-submersed; does anyone have any experience with it submersed at the lower Sous vide cooking temperatures?

If I chose this unit I will of course have to build/supply a 120VAC to 5 or 6VDC power source.

Why not do some plumbing and use it externally? No big problem with heat then.

Possibly quieter being submerged and don't have to find a place for it outside the tank, but yes that is a possibility.

The 1L pump is very quiet. It's brushless so don't make as much nosie as those brush type motor.
And,it's so tiny. Picture may looks bigger as it's merely 1.2" long overall. Wont take you much space. That's the reason why it cost a little more.

This is an older thread but right on topic.

I purchased the High Temp 68LMin 12V pump for my sous vide back in May, but the pump has stopped operating. Obviously, there is no way that I've gotten close to the 20k hour lifespan, so this seems abnormal. Has anyone else seen an early failure like this? (I don't think that run it dry for much longer than it takes to siphon/prime it)

Is there a manufacturer's warantee or exchange possible on this unit. I would like to know this before I pull the pump apart to see if there is any corrosion (It's not a submersible unit, but the humidity in the sous vide can get pretty high).

I use an ice cooler for my container since I like to slow cook brisket and pork butt, so the smaller 1l pump wont move enough water for me to get an even temp distrubution. Brisket and some vegetables require temps up to 80 celsius, so I'm concerned about running the 20L/m 80 DC12v for 24 hours at the top of it's working temp (I also see the environmental temp is < 50 celsius, so it wouldn't be appropriate for a submersible alternative)

failed after less time than the 20,000 hours spec, however I was running it partially submerged. What was submersed was the inlet and outlet; the motor portion was outside the water. It was quiet, more so before I glued it half way in and half way out of the container.

I have since acquired the 12VDC version, that was not originally available, and have yet to use it.

solorgroovy is asking about I do not recall it being available last year either.

In general I feel these pumps are disposable. My sous vide will run 24/7/365 with temps up to 185 degrees F.
