Please explain the thermocouple to me

I have your thermocouple. My application does not have enough space to mount the threaded screw part. I was going to drill a hole the diameter of the coupler tip about 1/2" deep and press fit the tip in. Will this work? Thanks.

fill the hole with something thermally conductive, like transistor heat-sink compound from one of the computer suppliers that sells heatsinks for computers. Arctic Silver is very good.

Will the thermocouple work if I bend the tip 90 degrees?
