cooling in liquid

Post by timur »

Can I use a peltier cooling system to cool a stanless steel beer fermenter.

If so, What temperature controller would I need?

Volume of beer is 6 gallons and the max temperature difference I would look for is no more than 6 degrees.

I think the answer is yes, and the JLD612 should work well, driving a relay that can handle the Peltier module's DC current. Peltier junctions work from DC power, heating when current flows in one direction, and cooling when current flows in the other direction, so there is also the need to supply enough DC power to make it work.

Meanwhile the PID controller runs from AC line power. The coil of the relay can be AC or DC powered -- the relay controller in the PID controller doesn't care which, as long as the coil current is relatively low, say 1 amp or less -- generally, they'll be under that.
