new 60w tube question about output.

Post by verncoc »

Marco or Tech

This tube was received from you on 8/18/2016, its replacing a 40w tube.

I am using the DPS controller AWC 608 and the LO LSR-JN60W-3VPWN PSU 20 to 60 w PSU with this tube.
Also using a digital 0-100 ma meter. Substituted a Fluke meter for checking but it didn’t change the readings much. Using LO 800W chiller set to 20c.

Max power set to 100% in manufacturers work parameters for this test and PPI is not checked in lasercad. Used two different watt meters doing this test, the Mohoney analog meter
and one call the DoHICy, that uses a digital meter, the reading were within 4% of each other.

I am trying to build a graph showing power out at various percentages. This is what I’m getting

% Power 10 20 30 40 50 60 70 78
MA 4 5 5.7 9.6 14.7 18 20.4 22
Output from 8.8 14.1 22.1 46 58.6 65.2 68 74.4 watts
Tube before
1st mirror watts

From other graphs and charts I see it appears the watt output seems low especially for the % power 10,20 & 30. I didn’t test beyond 78%.
The paper that came with the laser tube says that you got 80.6W at 18 ma, it’s not even close to this.
What seems to be my problem with the output of the tube? I did something similar to a 40 watt tube low percentages were more linear? I must be overlooking something.

There isn't any problems here.
1) you meter is not a qualified power meter like the one we have . Our is industry grade laser power meter with less than 5% error. The one you have is an analog type selling in ebay with iver 10% precision. Out is New Port Digital and Molectron (now Coherent)

2. The tube is a 60W so if you can get 74W, you still got more than what it was rated
