Beam Collimator damaged.

Post by Hermes »

My Firestar V40 's beam collimator shows some damage, it was working allright, then suddenly not.

Already looking online for a provider to buy a replacement.

That same damage happened to a pair of beam expander lenses, original from my gravograph LS600. Those optics where storaged for 5 years, I moved them to the new facilities in order to install them, in 2 months they got damaged, I didn't got them working, my best guess it was humidity.

The diagnosis came in; the tech rep from synrad says the collimator lens shows damaghe from moisture, vapor or smoke, then the laser ray heated the buildup on the optic, damaging it. The output coupler needs to be lifted to get the collimator, which exposes the laser tube's chamber, so it would have to be refurbished.

TL&DR, the tube is fubar.
