Re: Problems after running new tube for a few hours today
Well, I had a chance to run my machine this afternoon. I started cutting out a small airplane out of 5mm wood, and about 10 minutes in, i heard a REALLY nasty sound, presumably from the PSU.
I'll pull it out tonite and open it up again, maybe its just a fuse (fingers crossed), but given the nastiness of the sound, i doubt it. This makes me sad..

No way!
We tested it for over 10min after repair before let it go
Were you running at AC110 or AC220?

Interesting related note: This seems to have killed my ammeter as well.

The fuse was DEFINATELY blown. Found a suitable replacement, but it shorted as soon as i powered up.

Where did you install the current meter to? Did you or did you not connect it in series with the negative wire to the laser tube?
The only possible way that it kill a current meter is having it connected to the Positive (HV) wire and in series with the tube
If that is the case, no doubt it blew the ammeter. Once the ammeter blew, it became Opened circuit and the charge no way to go and blew the internal circuitry.

Re: Problems after running new tube for a few hours today
You may want to check the connection of the ammeter. If it go lose (it happen oftern!) then it become an open circuit. If that happen, it blew the laser power supply and it will blew the ammeter quite easy especially for a digital one.
You can send it back for repair but this time I will have to require $35 for the parts and for the shipping cost.
I'll test it over 30min on full power before let it go. If it happen again (hope not), then something wrong with your connection.

OK, the $35 is not a problem. do I need an rma or not? I'll get that out tommorow. Does AWC-608 handle current monitoring btw? Looking to pick that up soon.

No RMA.
Just attn to me and I will take care the repair and will do QC for you
I will do 30min burn in test with full power
May be you should post some pictures of how and where you install the LPSU.
I may be able to find the issue
LaserCad or the DSP is not capable to monitor the current. Need a 30mA current meter to handle the task

Re: Problems after running new tube for a few hours today
Hey Marco,
I trust you received the PSU by now? Just checking in.
As for mounting, its basically mounted under the laser tube on a piece of plywood across my aluminum extrusion frame. The ammeter wiring and other control are across the machine. In reading it seems like I would want to ground my AC plugs ground and the psu ground to my frame? I'll investigate the wiring further before I power it on. I'm thinking of moving the ammeter closer to the tube. I also would like to buy a new controller, so I'll likely do that the same time you return the supply and then just rewire the whole machine.

Re: Problems after running new tube for a few hours today
Hey Bill:
Power supply received. I found out that the issue was not you but the power supply. We tested 3x LPSU and all blew in 5~6 min with full power output. I'm working closely with the supplier and trying to figure out what is the cause. Currently, we still don't have a solution. For somehow, the current keep rising and once the current (AC) reached approximately '4A', the power transistor blew!
By the way, you don't owe me $$ because the fault is on our side, not you. I'll send it to you once it is fixed.
Sorry for the trouble!

Re: Problems after running new tube for a few hours today
would it be possible to get a replacement (or some sort of deal on an upgrade) instead of a repair as this is the second issue with the unit? I'll pick up an AWC and drivers to sweeten the deal

Do you want a 60W instead?
The issue still unsolved (mystery)

If you think that would work ok with my 45W tube, that would be fine. room to grow is always good i guess.
