Re: Um setting above 28 causes overspeed and loss of steps

I checked all the power supply today and found no problems so all is good there. I swapped the pulleys around so I now have a - 19 tooth on the motor 36 tooth on the driven shaft 19 tooth on the x axis belt. I got the pulses down to around.... ( I've forgotten!! bummer ) Around 15, I think. Then tun...

Re: Um setting above 28 causes overspeed and loss of steps

No, just the X direction. I have the Y axis geared down with a double reduction and it works great but I think I am missing something really simple for a fix to this. It's almost as if the settings are backwards! I intend to have a better look at it tomorrow but now the power supply is tripping out ...

Re: Um setting above 28 causes overspeed and loss of steps

Well now, I've tried just about every thing I know and it just seems like it's a bug in the controller. There is just so much of a difference between going from 28um/pulse to 29um/pulse. The thing takes off at ludicrous speed and loses steps. At 28 it's pretty subdued and drives nice and slow when s...

Re: Um setting above 28 causes overspeed and loss of steps

Richard The first thing that comes to my mind is, are you restarting or resetting controller after making the change? Second is, what happens if you make the changes directly at the control panel? EDIT, maybe you CAN'T make that change at the control panel. :) I don't think it makes any difference ...

Re: Um setting above 28 causes overspeed and loss of steps

Thanks a bunch for the replies guys. :-) I am using Gecko drives for the motors so I can't change the Um/pulses so I am limited to 10 pulses per step. I know the pulses seem a bit high but I am sure ages ago with a slightly different setup I had used around 40 per pulse and had no problems but that ...

Re: Um setting above 28 causes overspeed and loss of steps

I have set the video to unlisted now. Sorry about that but I thought anyone could watch a private video if they had the link. It's now set to unlisted so you should be able to see it. I have had a previous setup set to 43um/pulse with no problems (I'm not sure if it was with this particular setup th...

Re: Cutting paper

That's a bit of a hard one as it's pretty fast but I reckon you might be in the right area with 70-80 watts or maybe more to be that quick, but that is just a guess with 80gsm paper and maybe a 1" foc length lens which gives a good small spot size that is great for cutting paper. Is this for a ...

Re: 900 x 600 100Watt Laser Build

That's a nice build. How far have you got with it now? Is it working? If your Z axis runs the wrong way just swap 2 wires for the motor on the controller to change it's direction and that should fix it and if your Z axis hits soft limits then set your axis max length to to double what it is. You hav...

Um setting above 28 causes overspeed and loss of steps

Hi guys, I wore out my laser drive belts and pulleys and replaced them with new ones last week and now have a strange problem with setting the um pulses per step. I need about 34um/step but if I go over 28 the DSP seems to run the motor way too fast and it loses steps and just squeals due to overspe...

Re: Turn off keypad beep on X7 DSP

I just stick a piece of tape over the outlet of the buzzer and it quietens it down a heap. It's still good to have to let you know when the job is finished when you are busy doing something else.

Re: Auto focus and auto tracking DSP controller

That will be VERY helpful Marco. I'll need to redesign a new table to use it so the head is adjustable and not the table.

Re: DSP works!

Hi Bing. Normal polycarbonate lenses for safety glasses are fine for CO2 lasers as they absorb 100% of the wavelength. You don't need expensive glasses to do CO2 laser work. If you want to test this then put some rice paper underneath a lens and fire the laser at it but don't let it burn all the way...

That grey scale engraving is VERY enticing. I can't wait. :-)
You're doing a great job getting out a pretty good product, Marco.
